"How to Become A Great Referee"
By: Riley Stonely

I am writing this blog to help all the referee out there that ref soccer. It is very important to do the following things, and they will make your life happy. If you do these steps anyone who is involved could benefit, but you in particular benefit the most.
In order to understand this blog post, you need to have some training done. You can go to UYSA.com to find a training period to become a certified referee. Once you do this then you can use these steps to help you become a better soccer referee.

Tips to becoming a better referee:
  • Be prepared with all of your gear. Bring actual reffing shorts and a ref shirt to your game. Wear black socks and shoes. Always keep a whistle, watch, red and yellow cards, pen, paper, and a brain.
  • Look professional. Tuck your shirt in and pull your socks completely up. NO SLACK ON YOUR UNIFORM.
  • Be on time
  • Be willing to make calls
  • Be confident in your calls
  • Be consistent with your calls
  • Be happy always
  • Look forward to a good game
  • Keep the game under control
If these tips are considered before you go to a game, I personally promise you that you will have a great time. I know if I am doing well if both coaches are a little angry, or preferably both happy. If one coach is mad, then you are doing a terrible job. Feel free to leave any comments or experiences you have with these tips. Share your experience with others.

    1. I still wouldn't want to be a ref...though your explanation "how to" was good.
